Planting the Butyagrus June 2005
We couldn't put it off any more the time had finally come to transport and plant one of the largest imported palms in the UK. A nerve racking time for myself and Emma. A day of wrapping and loading went without a problem. Sunday morning and the slow drive down to the Dorset coast. The weather was completely against us and we had heavy rain all day. The Phoenix went in without too much trouble. The butyagrus was a different challenge all together. The two main factors here where the close proximity to the house and garage. The 2nd being the telephone line over head. We got the power line taken down but the telephone line was not moving (well maybe a little, there's a lot of stretch in a phone line!) 4 hours of the crane lorry lifting and shifting, a lot of grunting and nervous moments and it was in. I'd like to say never again but there will always be another monster palm to plant, so till the next time...
April 2005
This beauty originated from Argentina and is currently residing at the nursery before winging it's way to it's new home - a private garden in Dorset. A seriously rare find and a seriously big palm. In fact, as far as we know it's the largest palm to be brought in to the U.K to date. Come and see it before it sets off on it's journey south in a few weeks time.
