This unusual form of Sciadopitys is a grafted variety with foliage that points vertically revealing a pale yellow vein that runs the length of the leaf. Overall it slowly forms into a compact conical shape when mature. This Japanese pine is best grown in acid to neutral soil, in sun or shade, it will also tolerate alkaline conditions. Can be grown in a pot, only pot on when it becomes pot bound into a slightly larger pot.
The Sciadopitys are named after its whorls of bright green foliage encircling its branches like the spines of an umbrella. They are also the only member of the Sciadopitysaceae, a living fossil with no close relatives dating back 230 million years.
