Pittosporum tobira (Japanese Mock Orange)
3 litre pot
Full sun or partial shade
Well drained soil
Pittosporum tobira shrub
Pittosporum tobira are upright evergreen shrubs with beautiful deep green glossy leaves, they have wonderful scented creamy-white flowers in early summer. The Japanese Mock Orange is a fairly slow growing shrub, it can be trimmed and shaped if required, I have seen them grown as trees in places like Spain or Portugal in the local parks where all the lower branches are taken off and they then are wonderful evergreen trees to shelter under from the sun, I havn't seen them quite that big here though, I am not sure of their age but quite old i would think because they are really slow growing! Now they are available in this country maybe they will be our evegreen trees of the future. Not to worry if its just a shrub size you require, they can be easily kept smaller and it would takequite a while to reach tree size in this country.
They love a sheltered sunny or part shaded spot in a good free draining soil. if you would like to grow one in a terracotta pot, then we can recommend http://www.vasotoscano.com/ for fabulous frostproof terracotta pots.

These are best planted in the ground in full sun or partial shade, they can tolerate a sheltered north facing site. They are happy in neutral, slightly acidic or alkaline pH soil that is moist but free draining. Once planted water well to ensure the plant has as good start.
If planting in a pot use a John Innis No3 based compost with some added grit.
Water well to get established and feed with a general purpose plant food.
Pittosporums can be pruned in late winter or early spring
