Hedychium coronarium AGM

The Hedychium coronarium has a beautifully scented white butterfly like flower in late summer and its lush green foliage make it a must have plant for the 'tropical' border. Originally from the Himalayas, this ginger lily is one of the hardy gingers that will tolerate a UK winter providing the soil is well drained. Hedychium also grow very well in a pot. In summer they like lots of water and food just like the Canna, Agapanthus and Dahlia. The leaves look greener if they have a little partial shade. You can over winter inside if you wanted to bring on the plants earlier in the season. Plant in a fertile, well drained soil in full sun/partial shade.
